By Reporter Remembrance Day in Malawi is observed on November 11th, coinciding with the global commemoration of Armistice Day. The commemoration this year is taking place in Zomba, where president Lazarus Chakwera is in attendance. Malawi, then known as Nyasaland, was a British protectorate during World War I and II. Many Malawians served in the King's African Rifles (KAR) and fought alongside British forces. Remembrance Day honors the sacrifices of Malawian soldiers who died during World Wars I and II, as well as those who served in subsequent conflicts. Malawi contributed significantly to the Allied effort during WWII, with over 30,000 soldiers serving in the King's African Rifles. Remembrance Day in Malawi serves as a poignant reminder of the country's history, its contributions to global peace, and the sacrifices made by its soldiers.
